Do you feel SAD?

Most of us know what it feels like to be tired. And I’m guessing that most of us know how sluggish we feel on a cold, dark winter’s day. In fact it’s so natural to feel like that that most of us take it for granted.

But what many people don’t know is that daylight has a very dramatic effect on how you feel. Both the amount and quality of light has an impact. Which of us hasn’t felt wonderful in the warm glow of a beautiful sunset?

Research shows that light stimulates the senses. Light is energy, after all. And light can give you more energy which in turn can help you less lethargic.  Is it any wonder then that people wake easily in the summer months, but often have trouble in the dark winter months? That’s why some people use special lighting, such as the HF3461.

When light falls onto your eyes your brain gets a message to produce cortisol. That stimulates you, because it’s the energy hormone. When it’s time to wake up in the morning a good bathing of light is important so that your hormones are better balanced and you’ll feel more energetic right from the get-go.

But what do you do if you don’t get enough natural light? That’s when devices such as the Philips HF3461 can help. It’s classed as a medical device. That’s right, the Philips hf3461 wake up is actually classifed as a medical device.

Offering up to 400 Lux light intensity, it easily meets  the level of 250 Lux that is required to affect energy hormones so you wake up full of energy. And for easy reading a light level of 300 to 400 Lux is ideal to avoid eye-strain, so such lighting devices are great for catching up on your favourite novel before bed!

Only you know whether you have trouble waking each morning, but remember that light can help. And if you don’t have a suitable natural source of light – for example if your bedroom window is obscured by other buildings – then a specialist light might just be the thing you need.

Rockford Verdi Club: The Tricolore Italian Flag

The following history of the Italian flag is presented by the Verdi Club of Rockford, IL. The present flag of Italy was adopted in 1948. Italians call it Tricolore because it has three colors – green, white, and red. All the previous Italian flags were all designed with these three colors. There are quite a few attributions as to why these particular colors were chosen and what do they mean. The white and red come from the Cispadane Republic, while the green comes from the military uniforms. According to some people the green stands for the plains of Italy, the white for the snowy hills of the Alps, and the red for those killed in the independence wars. A more religious explanation of the colors is green – hope, white – faith, and red – charity. One thing is sure about the colors of the flag, and it is that they are very specific. The green is a fern green, the white is a bright white, and the red is a flame scarlet.

In the world there are many flags that are similar to the Italian one. The best example is the flag of Mexico. They differ in aspect ratios – Italian 2:3 and Mexican 4:7. The Mexican flag uses darker shades of both green and red and it has an emblem (Mexican coat of arms) over the white part. The Italian flag is also similar to those of Ireland, Hungary, and France.

Italians celebrate their flag on the 7th of January. Although this is an official holiday, it is not a paid one. The Tricolore is a beautiful flag and it has proudly represented Italy throughout the world.

The Verdi Club is one of the most popular Italian clubs in the Midwest! They offer a wide variety of activities for their members including a full bar, professional bocce courts, riverfront property, pool tables, and a concert hall that is available for rent. For over 89 years, the members of the Giuseppe Verdi Society have taken pride in having one of the elite social clubs in Rockford, IL.  Feel free to visit their site at http://www.RockfordVerdiClub.com.

Early Readers Increase the Gap Over Other Students Over Time

Stainthorp, R., & Hughes, D., (2004). An illustrative case study of precocious reading ability. Gifted Child Quarterly, 48, 107-120

Some gifted kids come to school as early or even precocious learners. Schools should identify this early reading and provide reading instruction and language arts opportunities that match the level of reading of each advanced child. The study shows that the early learners and especially the precocious learners not only continue to hold their advantage in reading skills, but improve at an increasingly fast rate when provided appropriate interventions.Reading skills can be easily crafted and taught via flash cards as proposed by Glenn Doman.

The Neural Circuitry for Reading is Developed Early in Life. A study by Yale professors found that adults who could not read well in 2nd or 4th grade and in high school have “…neural circuitry for reading [that] was present but improperly connected.” This study, by Yale pediatricians, points out to parents and teachers that activating young ones‘s neural circuitry for reading early on is key.

An author of the study, Lyon, says: “We have to have preschool and early education programs that know how to identify students at risk and know how to provide them with substantial language and literacy interactions that are warm and nurturing–replicating what ideally they should find at home.”

Your child Brain Develops Differently Based on the Age that Language Skills are Learned. It is important that the young one have many different language experiences in order for these areas of the brain to be developed. My hypothesis is that learning to read as a young one leads to more efficient and more coordinated brain development for all of the language areas of the brain. I believe that it is similar to learning two languages as a child where the child‘s brain has a smaller area of the brain that is active the later the child learns the language skills. Just like boys & girls who learn a second language are able to speak without a foreign accent and they learn the patterns of the second language, toddlers who learn to read have often learned to read faster and with better comprehension — probably because they learned during this period of rapid brain development and during the young one‘s natural window of opportunity for learning language. One of the languages that we highly encouraged children to learn is Chinese. Learn Chinese will help the child far in life due to the rise of China.

The Earlier the toddler Learns to Read, the Better the kid Reads and the More Likely the young one Wants to Read

toddlers who were taught to read at age three or four read better than teenagers who were taught at age five or six. Those taught at age seven or eight were farther behind. This was true even when comparing boys & girls of the same IQ and same socio-economic status. After eight years, the toddlers taught earlier were ahead of children who were taught later. The children who were taught to read earlier were more likely to “devour books.”

Debt Consolidation Loans

In a recent report from The Halifax Building Society, it was found that almost (58%) of homeowners have invested in home improvements in the past 12 months. Most popular home improvement was interior decoration but new kitchens and new bathrooms also proved to be very popular.  Rather than pay cash from savings, many choose to use the equity they had built up in the property as security for a homeowner’s loan.

Although home improvements are a common reason for borrowing money, homeowner Loans can be used for many purposes including business start-up, university fees or that dream holiday for example. Homeowner loans are secured and offer lower interest rates, larger sums of money and longer repayment terms.

Generally speaking anyone who has sufficient equity, even if their credit rating is not perfect, will be approved for a secured homeowner loan.

What is a Secured Loan?

A secured loan is a loan secured against your property. This security lowers the risk factor for the lender making loans less expensive and more readily available.

What is Equity?

Equity is simply the current value of your property less the outstanding mortgage.  So, if your property is valued at 300,000 and you have an outstanding mortgage of 100,000 the equity would be 200,000. Any outstanding loans secured against your property will also be subtracted from the total equity value. Property prices are dynamic so you may discover that you have greater or lesser equity available to you depending on the strength of the property market.

Is a Secured Loan for Me?

If you are planning on applying for a loan and the amount you are looking to borrow is between 7,000 and 75,000 or more a secured loan will benefit you by offering low cost payments for larger amounts of money.

Always be Sensible and Think your Loan Through

When you apply for any loan secured or unsecured commonsense always applies. With a secured Loan you could lose your assets if you fail to keep up with payments. However, Payment Protection Insurance (PPI) can protect your assets and offers a solid safety net in event that you are unable to make loan payments due to ill health, injury or unemployment.

Lender Selection

Applying for a loan is something we all do wither it is a mortgage to purchase a new property, finance on a car or a bank loan to upgrade your kitchen. It is important that you work with an FSA regulated lender who is reputable, check the small print to understand the conditions that apply and if you are unclear on anything ask the lender to explain further.

Never a Better Time to Buy Fine Art Prints and Posters

The digital revolution has impacted on all those industries that manufacture physical products that can be digitized. So traditional photographic film is now replaced by a sensor in the digital camera, vinyl music albums are replaced by MP3 files, and in the place of bulky video tapes we now have DVDs and wmv or mpg files – to name just a few examples.

In the process of this revolution, entire skill sets have been wiped out and many jobs lost. This is particularly so in the printing industry where digitization has made redundant highly skilled artisans like typesetters and compositors, their jobs taken over by graphic designers using computers and desktop publishing software.

At the same time digital printing processes have brought a significant drop in the price of art and photographic reproductions, mainly because it’s now become cost-effective to print small quantities. You don’t have to produce thousands of the same product to bring down the cost per unit.

While prices have dropped, the quality of the prints has simultaneously improved because of improved print technology. Sophisticated inkjet printers using an array of colors – not just the traditional cyan, magenta, yellow, and black inks – can produce vivid, pure colors and subtle tones previously only achievable with machinery costing hundreds of time more.

This means the average person now has access to a massive selection of fine art prints and posters, reproduced from originals by many of the world’s leading artists – all at affordable prices. By using some basic interior design principals, combined with tasteful selecting of frames and colors, virtually anyone can decorate a home or office to quite stunning effect without breaking the bank.

And, if you’re simply looking for eye-catching, colorful posters to decorate a dorm or pub, the possibilities are endless. If you’re a movie buff, you can choose old movie posters featuring timeless classics like Casablanca and Gone With The Wind, to modern cult movies and latest releases.

Al Pacino fans are spoilt for choice, with options that include a wide selection of Scarface posters graphically depicting Pacino’s memorable role as mobster Tony “Scarface” Montana.

For the sports fan, there is a similarly huge selection of outstanding sports prints and posters, many featuring defining moments in sporting history, while others acknowledge the sporting greats who’ve left an indelible impression on their fans, such as Michael Jordan posters and photographs of Muhammad Ali in action.

There has never been a better time to decorate your walls with fine art prints and posters, digitally printed on good quality papers using archival inks. Whatever your interest or passion, you’re bound to find something that appeals – and at a price that’ll leave a smile on your face.

Air Suspension For Lincoln Navigator!

Class-exclusive power running boards and a new power liftgate highlighted the 2003 redesign of Lincoln’s full-size sport-utility vehicle. Essentially, the Navigator is a Ford Expedition luxury spinoff. Dimensions changed little, but styling was revised. Introduction of an independent rear suspension lowered the rear floor by 9 inches, to provide more third-row leg room. Navigator’s new dashboard design was not shared with the Expedition. Luxury, Premium, and top-line Ultimate models were offered, all equipped with a 300-horsepower, 5.4-liter V8, versus the 260-hp engine in the Expedition. A four-speed automatic was the sole transmission. Navigators were offered with rear-wheel drive or Ford’s ControlTrac four-wheel drive, which could be left engaged on dry pavement and included low-range gearing. Antilock four-wheel disc brakes, 18-inch wheels (versus 17s in 2002), power-adjustable pedals, leather upholstery, and genuine walnut interior trim were standard. So were curtain side air bags that served the first and second seating rows, and were designed to deploy in side impacts and rollovers. Torso side airbags were unavailable.

Heated power-folding door mirrors and an in-dash CD changer also were standard. A self-leveling air-spring suspension was included with 4WD. Second-row seating was a choice of two buckets with a center console, or a three-passenger split-folding bench. A 60/40 split folding third-row bench was standard. The Premium model featured traction/antiskid control and heated/cooled front seats. The Ultimate added a power-fold feature for each section, which was also available for the Expedition. However, no other SUV offered the Navigator Ultimate’s standard power liftgate or power running boards. The latter automatically extended when a side door opened, and retracted when it closed. Premium and Ultimate options included rear-seat DVD entertainment and a navigation system. Later in the year, a tire-pressure monitor became available. Rivals included the Acura MDX, Cadillac Escalade, Mercedes-Benz M-Class, and Toyota Land Cruiser.

2004 Lincoln Navigator: Highlights for 2004 included a standard tire-pressure monitor and, at midyear, availability of Ford’s Roll Stability Control. That system was designed to detect an impending tip and activate the antiskid system to reduce chances of a rollover. Navigators came in Luxury and Ultimate models this year. A self-leveling rear suspension was standard. The Ultimate had a standard power liftgate and optional power running boards. Antiskid/traction control and heated/cooled front seats were standard on the Ultimate.

How You Can Write A Great Actors Resume

The headshot expresses the look and feel of the actor at a glance, but the actors resume sells the versatility, skillfullness, and success of an actor before he or she ever shows up to the audition. The purpose of this article is to go back over the reasons for creating an acting resume and from there discuss what should and should not go in it and why.

An acting resume should take up precisely one side of one page, and you will usually want to have it stapled to the back of your head shot. This single page should represent you as an artist, as an entertainer, as an employee, and as a colleague. So the main thing is to understand what auditioners want from you. What show are they putting up, and how does it compare to their previous shows? What sorts of actors do they like to use, and who do they usually cast for the role you want? After you’ve thought about and understood these things, the next step is to try and give them what they want. Since you’re a professional actor, this should be the easy part.

The main thing to have in mind is that your acting resume is not an extension of you as an actor, it is an extension of the part you want to play. So, you should twist and pull at the facts of your professional life until they fit, as closely as possible, the specific audition. I would never tell you to lie; just list the parts of your acting career in an order which suits the demands of the part. This is a little bit of an extra investment in terms of time and energy, but it’s not that big an investment. The fifteen minutes that you spend for each audition could very well spell the difference between getting a part or not getting it.

Our old house got a facelift with new lighting

Do you live in a new house or older house? We happen to live in a house that was built in 1913, it’s pretty old. When we bought it the owner showed us newspapers they had found when they redid the dining room floors, original papers to 1913 when the house was built. It was really interesting to see the advertising they had. A car was super cheap, mens suits were $10, times were sure different back then.

Our house’s wiring is older too as a result. It’s been modernized since then and it gave us an opportunity to consider some more modern possibilities such as track lighting and candle sconces. We have done both to some degree in various rooms in the house.

We put a theater in the upstairs above the garage and the track lights are perfect for that area to showcase some of the more interesting features. But in the living it was more appropriate to get a classier look and lighting options such as candle sconces are great for that. They don’t require special electric outlets since they are simply candles set carefully inside a sconce that hangs on the wall. They really are beautiful. I found them at our local floral and housewares store. Buying local has its advantages. Pretty decent price, too.

The sconces I picked are a dull copper color and we can put any shade of candle in them we wish. It works best with tall tapers, although shorter ones work, too, as long as the candle base fits into the hole. Otherwise the candles will fall over.
