Early Pregnancy Symptoms What Are They

After the joy of discovering you are pregnant, one of your first questions may be – “what about pregnancy symptoms?”. Other women love to tell pregnant women all the horror stories they have heard about pregnancy symptoms, but the reality, for most women, is that symptoms only last a few weeks and are not very severe.

Pregnancy symptoms are not the same for everyone, and may even be dofferent from one pregnancy to the next. Some women suffer for months, even right up to the birth, but the majority of women experience a few weeks of discomfort. These symptoms are usually thought to be minor when compared to the promise of a baby. Invariably telephone your doctor if you are expressing any symptoms of pregnancy symptoms.

There are some symptoms that occur soon after conception due to the release of hormones that help the egg to implant strongly to the uterus. One of the earliest symptoms is tenderness of the breasts and some enlargement as well. The well-known early pregnancy symptom is nausea, and this can be experienced as early as just two weeks after the first period you miss, when you are six weeks along, and usually goes by the time you are 12 weeks. Once more telephone a family doctor or perhaps midwife if your developing any first signs of pregnancy. Just a few women actually continue to have any nausea after 12 weeks.

The increase in hormones – progesterone, estrogen and HCG – is the major cause of pregnancy symptoms, ehich start to affect the mother’s body by 14 days. Women who have been pregnant before tend to experience pregnancy symptoms earlier than those who are pregnant for the first time.

The well-known symptom of morning sickness, is often experienced at other times of the day. It is one of the earliest symptoms and may be experienced as early as one week after conception. While it can be uncomfortable at the time, it usually doesn’t last past about 14 weeks. Try eating small frequent healthy snacks to ease the worst of the morning sickness, and ease the actual nausea by eating dry crackers.

Near the time of your normal period, there may be some slight bleeding or spotting, that is a pale pink color. This implantation bleeding might start 8 or 10 days after ovulation, and it occurs when the fetus is attaching to the uterine wall. Light bleeding can last for up to two weeks; it is normal and no cause for concern.

Another pregnancy symptom which creates discomfort is the felling that you need to urinate more often; this is caused by the growing uterus pressing on the bladder. While you feel as though you need to urinate more often, you may not really need to. As the fetus grows even bigger, particularly during the third trimester, you will find this symptom will increase.

You may feel constantly tired during pregnancy, more than your activity levels indicate. It is best to eat small regular snacks; rest as often as you can and have regular light physical activity to keep healthy. As the uterus grows, it can compress the major arteries of the body, causing light-headedness and dizziness.

Increasing pregnancy hormones may also cause heartburn or constipation, due to a slowing of digestion. It is important to drink lots of water and include foods that are high in dietary fiber to prevent and control these symptoms. During the first trimester you might get headaches, weight gain, irritability, nosebleeds and mood swings, but these symptoms will probably go away by 12 weeks.

In every case contact your general practitioner for any health-related troubles.
