Fishing vacation in Newzealand which is located in the south west pacific consist of two main islands the North Island and the South Island and in addition to this Steward Island and many smaller islands lie off shore.  In the Northern island there are rolling farm lands and a mountain range running through the middle. The rolling farm land of Otago and southland is there in the southern island. Accoring to passing month climate varies in Newzealand. Summer is from December to February, autumn from March to May, winter from June to August and spring from September to November. Normally catch is good on low water and fishes will be available in plenty on the river mouths and the temperature also permits good fishing. fishing will be very difficult during autumn due to the abundance of food sources and the low clear water levels. In winter fishing can be excellent despite the narrow range of waters but only those who are brave and have courage to fight against the cold, winter rains also come with some un expected results. Warm jackets and chest waders will be helpful during this period. During spring fishing is very good . This is the season were fishes had returned to the lakes and rivers and will be hungry opening best of the chances to the catchers.

Fish available here can be categorized as striped Marlin at its best, yellowtail kingfish, snapper, kahawai, terakihi, trevally, blue cod, john dory, gurnard, salmon etc., fishing here is devided in to two catagaries which are fresh water fishinh and salt water fishing . Fresh water fishing will take place in the rivers and lakes and some of the notable locations are Lake Taupo, Queens town, Motueaka River and Murchison region. Fishes available from fresh water can be classified as Salmon, Waimakariri, Hurunui and small fishes like white bait, inanga are also available in plenty. As the country occupies more than 15,000 kilometers of coastline salt water fishing is also having a wide scope and some of the best locations are Marlborough sounds, Auckland, Doubtless bay, south land. Fishes available from salt water fishing are snapper, king fish, blue cod, trumpeter and grouper.

Artificial fly,fly wheel and fly rod is used fir fly fishing. The reels used in fly fishing are generally of simple construction , light weight to balance the rod but also tough enough to handle hard knocks. Dry fly fishing is another method of catching fish by using an artificial fly which looks like an insect as a bait and on seeing this fishes will fly to it and can be caught this will be effective when there is an abundance of insect life around. Wet fly fishing is another method were fishing is done with a sinking line and requires the angler to maintain contact with the lure as it is retrieved. Some flies are referred to as wee wets and these are as the name suggests small flies that usually resemble small hatching insects.
