The perfect ski vacation requires, of course, a great resort to stay at. But it also requires having great snow for skiing.. And for that, Steamboat Springs, Colorado perfectly fits the bill. Known for it’s “powder”, the town has some of the driest snow in the U.S.

But this town is a bit more than a simple cookie cutter tourist trap. In fact, part of its charm flows from its real life history as a small cattle town. And many visitors love the small town feel that the community exudes. The casual atmosphere surrounding the town, puts you at ease from the moment you arrive.

The community of Steamboat is also very much price friendly, especially for families. Skiing is one of the more expensive sports. And compared with places like Aspen and Vail, this is a welcome oasis for those seeking for a bit of price relief. Steamboat also has many good ski resort packages available.

If you’re looking for price breaks on lodging or cheap ski resorts, it’s best to search for one of the nearby condominium resorts where you’ll typically get a much better deal than you will from most of the hotels. Most will also have nearby shuttle services to take you to and from the slopes.

But skiing is only a small part of all that Steamboat has to offer. It has some great trails, devoted to snowmobiling, where you’ll have breathtaking views that you can take advantage of on the days where you want a break from the ski slopes. And for the more adventurous souls, there’s dog sledding – probably one of the few places you’ll ever get to enjoy this past time outside of Alaska.
